The game of Blackjack has been around for well over 400 years, and over these years it has developed from a very boring, high house edge game into one with dozens of different variants some of which offer the lowest house edge of any casino game.

Blackjack Cheats, Card Counters and Collusion

However one thing remained, and that was the fact that Blackjack is beatable by fair means or foul, all manner of cheats have made small fortunes by manipulating the game to their advantage and this had made the game of Blackjack a very labour intensive one with Dealers, Pit Bosses and the eye in the sky operators all taking a role in ensuring the game is honest.

Blackjack Rules, Variants and Game Guides

Mastering the game of Blackjack is something many players dream of being able to do and stepping up from a recreational player to a serious player is harder than you think, however they say knowledge is power and with this in mind we have compiled full Blackjack game guides covering all Blackjack variations.

European Blackjack has been around for years and as the name suggests it is most commonly found in European countries!

It is one of the more basic Blackjack variants that can be found, and this has led, in part to its popularity. Being both easy to play and even easier to understand you won’t ever find yourself scratching your head at any of its rules of play.

Number Of Decks: European Blackjack uses two full decks of standard playing cards.

Splitting Rules: When playing European Blackjack you can only ever split a hand once, and by doing so you will be playing with the maximum number of hands permitted which is two.

Doubling Down Rules: In European Blackjack you are only allowed to Double Down on hands that total 9, 10 or 11.

Dealer Play: The Dealer must stand on all 17 hands.

The online version of European Blackjack has the entire deck being shuffled before the cards are dealt.

Payout and House Edge: A Blackjack hand pays 3 to 2, and a winning Insurance bet pays 2-1.

European Blackjack – Hint and Tips

The correct playing strategy on European Blackjack is very easy to learn and the only time you should double down is when you are holding a ten, eleven or a pair of fives and the Dealer is showing a 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 or a 9.

Or when you have a twelve and the Dealer is showing either a 2, 3, 4, 5 or a 6.
You should stand any hand above 17, or a soft 19 or a soft twenty, or a pair of tens, no matter what the Dealer is showing the best strategy is to stand that hand.

Blackjack Maths

The odds paid out for a receiving a Blackjack hand can vary from game to game and although you may be expecting a payout of 3-2 for getting such a hand this is not always the case.

Face Up 21
In the game of Face Up 21 a Blackjack hand will payout at odds of even money, however a player who get a Blackjack will always win if both he and the Dealer have Blackjack
Double Exposure also pays a winning Blackjack player hand out at even money, in this game both the dealers and players cards are always dealt face up, so you always know what the dealer is holding.

Super Fun 21
In the game of Super Fun 21 a Blackjack hand pays even money, unless it is in the suit of Diamonds, if it is then this payout becomes a more favourable 2-1.

Blackjack Switch
Blackjack Switch is a popular game even though a Blackjack hand pays even money, the house edge of the Blackjack Switch game, when played with six decks is 0.17%, so even with this lower than average Blackjack hand payout it is still a good game to play.

Single Deck Payouts
Some casinos will offer you a single deck Blackjack game, which on the face of it looks like it will have a low house edge and make you think you are getting a good deal. That is until you checkout the payouts listed on the table layout and find it is 6 to 5 for a Blackjack.

This is a very low payout and will have a major effect on your winnings and bankroll, should you be playing such a game from a single hand shoe with such paltry payouts then you are going are going to bust out 8 times more quickly than you would by playing a normal 3-2 Blackjack paying single deck game!

A Blackjack table layout is fairly easy to understand and we shall now take a look at what you can expect to find on each one. We shall base this as if you are sat facing the dealer and shall work our way around the layout.

In the far left is the discard tray, this is where all the cards that have been played are played once each game is over. Next to this is the cash box, this is where the dealer places all coins and notes that he has exchanged for chips.

Next you will see the dealer chip tray, this is where he will place losing bets and pay winning ones from. On the right is of the chip tray is the card shoe, this contains all the cards that are still remaining in play.

There will be a number of circles printed on the Blackjack table layout and this is where players need to place their wagers.

Shuffle tracking is a very advanced way of counting cards that means a player or team of players knows where a sequence of cards is in a shoe and will closely watch the shuffle to ensure they know where they are.

This will work better on a bigger deck being a 6 or 8 Deck shoe as they visually are much easier to track, but casinos have found ways around this element of the game and tracking a shuffle is now much harder to do.

They have now installed automatic card shufflers which ensure the shuffle is 100% random whilst at the same time ensuring it is done in such a way that no one can track where any of the cards are in the shoe!

They can also continously shuffle cards which means any attempt to keep track of any cards in the shoe is virtually impossible.

In basic terms these automatic card shufflers are an electronic box in which the cards are placed, once inside the machine performs several movements which ensures the cards are shuffled correctly and in such away that this shuffle is random.

So you should look at such devices as player friendly as they do not effect the game in any way they just ensure all is legit, fair and honest, which is what you should be demanding from whichever casino you frequent.

So if you do see your playing cards being fed into such a machine then don’t worry there is no skull duggery a foot, it is simply the casino making sure you aren’t up to mischief and all is well with their Blackjack game.

Blackjack is a unique casino game requiring a mixture of luck and talent to win just like every other card games. Although, no one man has won all his blackjack games, some good blackjack tips can help you win a little more often which in turn makes you enjoy playing the game a little bit more. But always remember that these are only tips and should not be an assurance that you’ll go home a big winner.

Given the situation, such a hand totals a value of 20 and is an excellent hand. Your goal is to achieve 21, but if you’ve got 20 on the first two cards dealt to you, then there is only one situation where the dealer can beat you with and that is with a 21. And it will be hard for the dealer to beat with you with this situation.

Whatever card value the dealer has in hand, even showing with an ace, always split the two 8s. Two 8s make a 16, and that is the worst hand in blackjack.

Splitting the two eights will give players a better chance of getting one winning hand, and of course will save players money. With one hand winning and the other losing, one will pay the other and the best of them will end up losing nothing.

You can get a basic strategy chart for online blackjack from the internet or you can find one in some blackjack books. If you can’t remember details related to how this game is played, print out a copy of the chart and take it with you when you play.

This is not illegal and will not generate any heat from casino personnel. If you play blackjack online, just keep the chart opened in another window. You can practice using our blackjack trainer and get real-time advice at the same time.

Even if you play correctly, the House has a slight edge. More than that, short-term swings can make it seem like the odds are much more against you. Play with a large bankroll, relative to the limit you have chosen. Give the odds a chance to swing back and get you even or even ahead.

At 2-to-1 on a 2.2-to-1 or worse proposition, insurance, a bet that the dealer will have blackjack, is just giving away money. Even when you insure a blackjack by taking “even money,” it is a bad bet. Just try to think of your blackjack session in terms of your odds over all the hands you are going to play, not what will happen on any individual hand.
